The first time robots visit an area, they are controlled remotely by an operator. The gathered data is then used to produce a map of the surroundings. After the first run-through, the robots can precisely localise themselves based on previous experience. After that phase, we need help to visually annotate where the drivable paths are: where to stop for road crossings, which parts of the sidewalks robots can use, which paths to prefer and other questions.
Your main task is to draw driveable areas on robots’ recorded images using in-house software. This relies on your imagination, creativity and best practices, as you define how the robot navigates the world. This is the last step of preparing robots for autonomous driving and is done for every location we open.
