Your mission :
The EPFL Laboratory of Virology and Genetics (LVG), headed by prof. Didier Trono, and the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) are looking for a Senior Data Scientist for Precision Medicine Applied to Cancer with sound experience in Machine Learning techniques to work on cancer research related projects.
The LVG is part of the EPFL School of Life Sciences and offers a challenging and stimulating environment with outstanding career opportunities and excellent benefits, while SDSC is a multi-disciplinary team of Senior Data Scientists whose mission is to accelerate the use of data science and machine learning techniques within the ETH Domain, the Swiss academic community, and the industrial sector.
The candidate will apply his/her advanced knowledge of ML algorithms to1) Define cancer subtypes2) Uncover biomarkers for precision medicine staging, prognosis and response to treatment (time to event analysis)3) Define the site of origin of metastasis of unknown origin. We expect the candidate to have wide knowledge of machine learning tools like Kernel Methods, (Deep) Neural Network or Latent Variable Models, as well strong interests for designing new models for having an impact on genomics and more broadly on precision medicine
The selected candidate will be located at the Health 2030 Genome Center (at Campus Biotech in Geneva) and at the SDSC (at EPFL campus in Lausanne).

The candidate must be highly motivated, like programming and be Unix-proficient. She/he will apply his/her practical experience in cleaning, mining and analysing huge volumes of data to develop Machine Learning solutions in the field of personalized health and precision medicine. Candidates are expected to possess deep experience in solving complex problems using data-driven methods. The ideal candidate also has good background in Big Data technologies.
